On 25 June 2026, the international platform “Integrative and Transformative Research on Earth and Societies” (InTRES) will be officially launched with an online event. Hosted by the Leibniz Research Network “Earth & Societies”, the platform is designed to foster inter- and transdisciplinary research on the interlinkages between the Earth System and societies in the Anthropocene.

The establishment of InTRES responds to the urgent need for integrated research approaches to navigate the Anthropocene. The platform aims to foster interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research on the interlinkages between societies and the Earth system. It will generate system, target, and transformation knowledge that drives sustainability transformations across spatial scales and societal levels.

InTRES provides a collaborative space open to researchers and institutes worldwide, intentionally bridging diverse scientific backgrounds. The platform's scope encompasses conceptual and methodological foundations, empirical studies, and transformation experiments. Through this approach, InTRES ultimately intends to drive sustainability transformations in the Global North and South across multiple spatial scales, temporal scales, and societal levels.

The platform is open to researchers and institutes worldwide and its reach extends beyond academia. It is designed to engage in tailored dialogues with key societal actors across politics, administration, the economy, and civil society, ensuring that research findings, innovations, and transformation pathways translate into actionable societal impact.
